Title: A. Jack Thomas
Abstract: A. Jack Thomas served in the U. S. Army from 1903-1919 as one of the country's first black Army bandmasters. He graduated from a conservatory of music in the Philippines before going on to study with conductor Walter Damrosch. After his discharge from the Army, Thomas established the Aeolian Conservatory in Baltimore and, in 1924, he directed the music department of Morgan College in Baltimore.
