Abstract
New accountability standards challenge students to become college and career ready by the time they graduate from high school. A growing concern exists that students from different subgroups are not achieving these standards at the same rate as their peers. This intervention program connected students with a mentor in an online environment to determine if that relationship would increase student aspirations to attend college and increase student motivation to achieve college and career readiness standards. Mentors worked individually with students over the course of twelve weeks on different learning assignments designed to target aspirations and motivation. This intervention program was evaluated using data from online interactions, interviews and survey responses from students and mentors to determine if student motivation and aspirations were positively impacted over the course of this study.
