Abstract
Digitized recordings of The Languages of Criticism and the Sciences of Man conference. These recordings are from the fourth and final day of the conference, October 21, 1966. Reel 7B features a lecture by Neville Dyson-Hudson, "Structure and Infrastructure in Primitive Society: Levi-Strauss and Radcliffe-Brown." Reel 8A includes a paper presentation by Dr. Guy Rosolato, "Le Voix et le Mythe Litteraire," while Reel 8B features Jean-Pierre Vernant, "La Tragedie Greque: Problemes d'Interpretation." Reel 9A includes the discussion of Vernant's paper as well as a presentation by Nicolas Ruwet, "Linguistique et Poetique" and the subsequent discussion. Reel 9B features a presentation by Jacques Derrida, "Structure, Sign, and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences" and discussion, and Nicolas Ruwet, "Linguistique et Poetique." Transcriptions available for Reels 8B and 9B. These transcriptions try to fit the talk as closely as possible. Some hesitations may have been slightly reworked for the sake of clarity, but the use of hyphens has been mostly preferred to transcribe interrupted sentences and thoughts, especially in the Q&A parts that are more spontaneous than the talk itself. While every effort has been made to provide an accurate transcription, some doubts remain, especially regarding certain mentioned names. If you have suggestions for improvement, please forward them to the University Archivist.
