The Return to Work in Disablity Programs: What Has Been Learned and Next Steps
Abstract
We review a number of demonstrations conducted by the Social Security
Administration which have attempted to improve labor market outcomes for disabled worker
beneficiaries of the Social Security Disability Insurance program and disabled recipients of the
Supplemental Security Income program. Based on our review, we draw lessons for the design of
programs which improve work incentives and suggest possible elements of new demonstrations.
