Abstract
This thesis includes stories from the east and west coasts of the United States that arose from my time living in different parts of the country and learning about those places. Primarily focused on nature and environmentalism, this collection of essays and articles brings light to the people, communities, and science that protect our earth against forces like pollution, climate change, and natural disasters. Other pieces touch upon human health and the science of creativity. This thesis encourages readers to notice, especially when it comes to nature and place, and to consider the deeply embedded connections between art and science.
