Legendary DMV Father Tre Blahnik talks about his introduction to ballroom at Baltimore’s Club Bunns, the ways ballroom helped him embrace his gay identity, and the ways it helped him become an outgoing and confident leader in the scene. He describes Baltimore and Maryland, the personalities of different houses, and the bold fashion that attracted him to the runway category. He discusses his experiences as a ball commentator and the father of a house, and about his job as a sexual health outreach worker and its connection to the ballroom scene. This oral history was recorded as part of the Peabody Ballroom Experience, a public humanities collaboration between Johns Hopkins University and the performance-based culture known as ballroom.
